THIS wet view down Cavendish Street was probably photographed in the 1960s, with men wearing long raincoats and women in plastic macs with matching hoods.
The nearer building advertises the Blackburn Assurance Co Ltd, next to the once-familiar Northern Fireplace Co Ltd. In the single-storey shops below, what was then Conways (Leathercrafts) Ltd was destined to take over the whole block as Conway Toymaster.
Farther down, a vertical sign saying "Cavendish" locates the Cavendish (originally the Palace) Cinema, which followed a trend to turn to bingo in 1961.
Near the bottom of Cavendish Street the Yorkshire Evening Post had a Keighley office, resulting in local stories frequently appearing in that and its sister paper, the Yorkshire Post.
The photograph has been supplied by Mr Lee Boardman, of Raglan Avenue, Keighley.
