A KEIGHLEY charity has issued an urgent appeal for cat owners to neuter their pets to reduce the number of unwanted cats in the district.

Keighley Cat Care has its own neutering project to help people with limited funds who cannot afford the procedure for their own cats.

A charity spokesman said: "Recently we were asked to help an elderly gent who had a multi-cat household and was struggling to cope.

"His kind action taking in a stray had resulted in him ending up with more cats than he could deal with as he didn't have her neutered.

"We, along with all other feline charities, continue rescuing and re-homing cats who've fallen on hard times.

"One side of volunteering for a charity like ours is the sadness we feel when we lose any of our cats.

"Only this week we've lost three kittens and a young cat to health issues, which possibly could have been avoided if they'd experienced a better start by being neutered.

"We still have places on our neutering project, so people who can't afford to neuter their pet can find out if we can help.

"We won't judge All we ask for is £5 so we can provide more neutering project places in future."
