BOTH GIRLS’ teams from Parkside School won their age groups in the Bradford 5-a-Side Festival.
Majella McColgan, the Cullingworth school’s parental involvement worker, said two excited teams went along to the Marley playing fields in Keighley for the tournament.
She said: “After a gruelling group stage both teams came through and advanced to the final stages.
“The under-12s team won their final 2-0 against Buttershaw School after being unbeaten throughout the group stage. PE teacher Emma Morton said it was a great achievement.
Fellow PE teacher Ben Miller, who like Mrs Morton accompanied the teams to the tournament, said the under-14’s team made it through to the semi-finals and beat a tough opposition in Holy Family 2-0.
He added: “We played Buttershaw School in the final and after a tough battle, no goals were scored and it went to a penalty shoot-out. We came out on top, 3-2, and made it a Parkside double!”
“The girls were all given a free t-shirt and football for winning... but most importantly they all left with a huge smile on their faces.”
