HAWORTH Parish Church's new rector has been formally inducted into his role.

The ceremony in St James Church, Cross Roads, late last month (June) means reverend Peter Mullins is now officially in charge of the United Benefice of Haworth and Cross Roads.

This includes the Anglican churches in these two villages, as well as St Gabriel's in Stanbury.

Rev Mullins was inducted by the Bishop of Bradford, the right reverend Toby Howarth.

Among those present at the event was the dean of Bradford Cathedral reverend Jerry Lepine, the archdeacon of Bradford the venerable Andy Jolley and West Yorkshire deputy lieutenants David Pearson and Robin Wright.

The event was also attended by ward and parish councillors and by 47 people from rev Mullins' previous parish in Grimsby.

Rev Mullins, who has come to the Worth Valley with his wife Deborah, has replaced Rev Peter Mayo-Smith who left early this year.

He was born in Malawi and was first ordained 33 years ago. He initially worked in parishes in Reading and Scunthorpe, before moving to run the in-service training of clergy for the diocese of Lincoln.

He has published a small book of his own poems and enjoys carrying out historical research.
