A NEW scheme is encouraging Keighley people to walk to work or college.
The initiative aims to promote walking as a mode of travel.
Advice will be provided on walk routes, maps produced and 'champions' recruited.
Behind the initiative – which launches on Thursday, August 3 – is West Yorkshire Combined Authority, working with the Living Streets charity.
The project is being financed by the Cycling and Walking to Work Fund.
Jenny Wiles, regional director of Living Streets, said: "Fitting more exercise into our day can be tough but choosing to walk the short, everyday journeys is an easy way for people to get more active.
"It also helps to maintain a healthy weight and prevent chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and depression.
"We're thrilled to be working with the combined authority and look forward to seeing the benefits the project will bring to workers, jobseekers and apprentices across West Yorkshire."
