WE in Keighley would be better served if that eyesore the Victoria Hotel was demolished – Work to finally begin on landmark site (Keighley News, September 7).
Bradford Council should compulsorily purchase the building, and the area it leaves be incorporated into the one-way system needed for Keighley – i.e. a roundabout with lights, as at the Beeches roundabout.
It would make sense to use East Parade, Worth Way and South Street as part of the scheme, then North Street and Cavendish Street to link-up to the newly-named Victoria pub roundabout. Any vehicle wanting to enter this system would be filtered in using a side lane, to be installed.
With the system Bradford Council is now installing, can you imagine four lanes of traffic in North Street. Chaos at the bend up to the South Street roundabout, and what about people crossing or people hoping to catch a bus in North Street? At least my idea would create a constant one-lane flow and allow other vehicles to enter this flow.
Try that Mr Mitchell and Bradford Highways!
