A MEETING is being held to tell Denholme residents more about a grant scheme for young people’s travel.

Organisers of the Felix and Rupert Greenwood Memorial Travel Fund will hold an information meeting at the Mechanics' Institute on Thursday, October 19.

The fund was set up by Hazel Greenwood in memory of her sons Rupert, 11, and Felix, 13, who, along with her husband Peter, died in the Bradford City fire disaster in 1985.

The fund provides up to £200 towards the cost of educational and cultural trips by Denholme residents aged between ten and 25.

Mrs Greenwood initially set the fund up in 1993 and then relaunched it in 2009, saying: “What you need is for a child’s memory – for their name – to continue.

“I thought that the fund would be a permanent memorial to my children.”

She said she was driven by her own memories of when she was a child and many young people missed out on school trips and other outings because their family’s income would not stretch so far.

Anyone interested in applying for a share of the fund should contact the Denholme town clerk by e-mailing denholmetc@gmail.com or texting 07531 855150.

The hour-long meeting, which starts at 7pm, will include refreshments.
