AN "Able Writers" day has been hosted by a Keighley primary school.
The event was staged earlier this month (Oct) at St Joseph's Catholic Primary, and was organised by the firm Authors Abroad.
A St Joseph's spokesman said: "Our day was also attended by pupils from years five and six from Ingrow and Long Lee schools. It was led by performance poet Andy Craven-Griffiths.
"The day included a creative writing session led by Andy, with lots of hints and tips on to how to improve writing particular types of poetry.
"Children performed 'rhyming battles', with each team trying to find a rhyming word that hadn't already been used within a given time.
"Teachers were encouraged to battle against the children, but the children won!
"Pupils worked in mixed groups to write and perform poems about different animals in a final competition.
"The team that wrote a poem about wolves won the contest. Other teams wrote about skunks, penguins and goats."
