SENIOR pupils at South Craven School demonstrated their initiative by competing to turn an initial sum of £10 into a much larger sum for charity.
They were taking part in their school's latest £10 challenge.
A spokesman for their school explained: "Each form gets given £10 to start them off. They can buy ingredients or any other equipment they need.
"Students then advertise and run a variety of events. The form that raises the most money wins the challenge.
"Money raised goes to charities selected by the current sixth form committee – the committee choose two new charities each year.
"This year the chosen charities are Teenage Cancer Trust and SCAD – Skipton & Craven Action for Disability.
"Activities to raise cash included cake sales, tuck shops, raffles, a photo booth, staff versus sixth form football, and a sponsored silence.
"There were also raffles, a sponsored bike ride, a basketball challenge, a mystery box raffle, guessing the number of sweets in a jar, a penalty shoot-out, pancake sales and 'mocktail' sales.
"The winning forms are 12LC in Year 12, who raised £289 and 13LC in Year 13 who raised £219.
"The total raised across all the forms in both years is a whopping £1,947. An amazing amount for the charities – we’re very proud of them all."
