KEIGHLEY Rotarians welcomed a civic visitor.

Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Abid Hussain, was guest speaker at a club meeting.

He said that for the first time, both Bradford’s mayor and deputy were from Keighley.

At the same meeting, a new member – former journalist Jonathan Smith – was enrolled.

He was sponsored by Mary Parker.

The meeting was the culmination of a busy month for the club.

About 30 people gathered for The Singing Teapot, a monthly event focusing on those living with dementia.

It featured favourite songs, and homemade cakes were served.

The club’s annual young musicians competition took place at Keighley Shared Church.

Eighteen entrants performed a wide range of vocal and instrumental works.

Judges Adrienne Fox and John Marshall praised the standards and offered advice and guidance.

Each participant received a certificate and category winners were awarded prizes.

First in the 11 and under class was vocalist Angus Williamson, in the age 12 category pianist Callum Whitton, 13-15 pianist Jacob Lockyer and 16-18 pianist Isabel Wood.

Angus and Isabel now go forward to district finals in York next June.

Guests at the competition included Keighley’s town mayor, Councillor Mohammed Nazam, and the Rotary District 1040 governor, Robert Morphet.

Volunteers from the club have also taken part in reading and taping the Talking Newspaper, which is distributed to the visually impaired.
