AN OAKWORTH clean-up crew has noticed less rubbish around the village since they first got together in summer last year.

Operation Oakworth brings residents together from time to time to tackle litter on routes in and out of the village. The volunteers first met after concerns were raised about litter and dog bags.

Following a clean-up held a year after the first event, the 10 volunteers had a much smaller pile of rubbish bags and said they felt the village was looking much cleaner.

The group, who passed on their delight to Bradford Council officers, planned another clean-up towards the end of this year to clear litter revealed as vegetation died back.

The success of Operation Oakworth was highlighted in a report to Keighley Area Committee, which detailed the work of council Neighbourhood Officers supporting community groups across Keighley and surrounding villages.
