YOUNG people with ideas for environmental projects could receive cash aid to turn their dream scheme into reality.

Grants of up to £1,000 are being made available by the Youth Environmental Action Fund.

The money is to support 11-to-24-year-olds looking to set-up small-scale schemes that will improve the natural environment, or raise awareness of it.

Projects should be in the Yorkshire Dales or surrounding areas, including Keighley and Bradford.

The initiative is part of the Green Futures programme, led by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.

Gail Smith, Green Futures project manager, said: "Through the fund we want to help young people achieve their green dreams.

"It's easy to apply for funding, so for anyone interested in setting-up their own environmental project, we'd love to help you make a difference in your community."

Grants could cover up to the full cost of running events or workshops, or buy resources for practical environmental work.

Previous projects have ranged from wildlife gardens to plastics recycling campaigns and the installation of school bike racks.

The deadline for applications in the latest round of grants is January 22.
