A DRAFT plan has been drawn up to improve safety on a bend in the road close to Oxenhope Primary School.
A copy of the plan was presented to members of Oxenhope Parish Council at their latest meeting.
The document proposes a number of no waiting at any time parking restrictions on Hebden Bridge Road, near its junction with West Drive.
Under the same proposals there would also be a new priority space for buses and additional road markings warning drivers to slow down.
Worth Valley ward councillor Rebecca Poulsen said: “We’ve had a positive meeting between the parish council, school head teacher John Parkin and highways officers, looking at this scheme for the road outside the primary school.
“There needs to be a balance between safety and providing some parking where people can be dropped off.
“And we’ve begun to make enquiries about seeing if we can get a school crossing patrol person. It’s about making things safer for our children in the village.”
Cllr Poulsen added the draft plan would be subject to a formal consultation exercise.
Parish councillor Peter McManus said he understood the primary school was exploring the possibility of initiating a “walking bus”, which could involve pupils being escorted on foot to school from Oxenhope Railway Station’s car park.
