MORE money will be spent on an Oxenhope public green space, as part of the early stages of a scheme to radically improve it.

Members of Oxenhope Parish Council agreed to spend another £900 on Oxenhope Rose Garden at their latest monthly meeting.

The cash will be used to clear away shrubbery, other bushes and stumps from parts of the land, and to clear a flower bed which will be used for planting new rose bushes.

Cllr Peter McManus said: "At the moment we don't have a lease from Bradford Council for the Rose Garden but we do have consent from Bradford for soft landscaping works, so we can move forward.

"We also now have a small but active Friends of the Rose Garden group, who are willing to do some planting there."

He said the quote to have the shrub clearance work done was a competitive sum, and that the first rose bushes could be planted in time for this summer.

Parish council chairman Cllr Ken Eastwood declared an interest in the Rose Garden item, so left the room for the duration of the discussion.

Oxenhope Parish Council is currently working on taking over the running of the Rose Garden from Bradford Council on a long-term lease basis.
