POPULAR Keighley attractions staged cracking eggs-travaganzas at the weekend to entertain Easter visitors.

Weather more akin to winter than spring failed to deter people from heading to Cliffe Castle, which was celebrating its first Easter since a £4.5 million revamp.

The renovations included the provision of new accommodation for the park’s much-loved rabbits and guinea pigs.

And to mark their return, an Animal Fun Day was held on Saturday.

As well as having the chance to see the park’s resident animals, children could get-up close with snakes and other rare reptiles courtesy of Into The Wild.

There was also a ferret race staged by Worth Valley Ferret Welfare, and arts and crafts activities.

This Saturday, the fun will continue with a free circus skills workshop, where everyone is invited to try their hand at juggling, stilt walking and more. The event will run from noon to 3pm.

Wildflower seed sowing will take place from noon to 3pm next Tuesday, when people can help provide bee-friendly plants with the Airedale Beekeepers.

Also, an Easter Story Trail is running throughout the school holidays.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s executive member for environment, sport and culture, said: “Spring is probably the best time to experience the newly refurbished park, especially with lots of free events for all the family both outside and inside the museum.

“Cliffe Castle has been one of the district’s favourite destinations since it became a public park and museum more than 50 years ago.”

Historic East Riddlesden Hall hosted a series of Easter egg hunts at the weekend.

The National Trust, which runs the 17th-century hall, partners with Cadbury every year for the event.

The activity is among many taking place at the property to keep children entertained during the holidays.

There’s the chance to get closer to nature in the wild play area, where youngsters can balance on a fallen log, create mud pies and hunt for bugs.

Arts and crafts are being staged.

And on Sunday, trust staff and the English Companions will take a step back in time to demonstrate what life was like for the Anglo-Saxons.
