CRAVEN Council has pledged to continue cracking down on fly-tippers.

Bosses issued the message as a successful prosecution was brought following an incident at Cowling.

Rubbish was dumped from a van on land at Collinge Road.

Last month, the offender – from Bridlington – was fined £320 and ordered to pay £1,000 costs.

"This is the biggest fine we have managed to impose on a fly-tipper in Craven so far and shows that we do not take these crimes lightly," said Councillor Carl Lis, the council's lead member for Greener Craven.

"I would like to thank the officers involved in the case, who worked extremely hard to ensure all the evidence was gathered correctly.

"Craven is a beautiful district and we are determined to keep it that way."

The council launched an anti-litter campaign, Operation: Cleaner Craven, in November, 2016.

New surveillance cameras were deployed and warning notices displayed at fly-tipping hotspots.
