CURRENT and former civic heads were rewarded for their contribution to the town at an event organised and hosted by a Keighley community group.
The meal and awards presentation took place at Bangladeshi Community Association, (BCA) in Kensington Street, earlier this month.
Chief guest at the occasion was the Manchester-based Bangladesh assistant high commissioner. Also present were Keighley and Bradford councillors and community activists.
A spokesman for the organisers explained: "The event was to recognise the current Bradford Lord Mayor Cllr Zafar Ali, former Lord Mayor Cllr Abid Hussain and Keighley town mayor Cllr Fulzar Ahmed for their outstanding contribution to serving the community.
"We also awarded members of the planter team who have recently been supporting BCA's initiative to improve the appearance of the Knowle Park area.
"It is hoped this formal acknowledgement may inspire others to get involved in activities to develop and sustain the environment in which they live."
Eyarun Nessa, BCA's community engagement co-ordinator, said: “I'd like to thank all our guests who took time out from their busy schedule to share this important day with us.
"BCA is about promoting talent within our community, and this was was an opportunity to honour those who contribute to the life of Keighley and go beyond their job role to support others."
