MYSTERY still surrounds the unauthorised resurfacing of a layby in Laycock which destroyed flower planting carried out by local school children.
As reported by the Keighley News late last month, the asphalting work near a bench by the side of Laycock Lane wrecked a community enhancement project which had been supported by Keighley Town Council, Laycock Primary School, local residents and a community development worker.
A variety of flowers planted in the spring by pupils, who were helped by award-winning gardener Steve Thorpe, have been buried under a fresh layer of asphalt.
Councillor John Kirby, chairman of Keighley Town Council's allotments and landscapes committee, said he could not understand why someone had gone to so much effort to do something that has made the layby look worse.
After this damage to the children's planting was initially revealed, Bradford Council confirmed it had not approved the resurfacing work and was trying to find out who did it.
Commenting at the start of this month, (Oct) a council spokesman said: “We haven’t discovered any evidence indicating who is responsible for this.
“The investigation is still open, so if anyone can provide us with information about it, we’d be grateful to hear from them.”
