A HERITAGE weekend at Oakworth Village Hall is only the first of several events planned for the autumn at the revitalised venue.

Volunteers running the former Holden Hall in Chapel Lane have also announced Halloween, Christmas and New Year’s Eve parties, and a festive craft market.

Oakworth Community Trust will host the heritage weekend on Saturday and Sunday, October 13 and 14, from 10am to 3pm. Admission is free.

Trust chairman Robert Payne said: “A number of Oakworth residents have expressed great interest in the history of Oakworth, so the events committee have been busy over the last few weeks requesting information and artifacts from residents.

“They are now actively correlating all of the documents, photographs and artifacts which will be on show. We would like to invite all residents of Oakworth and the surrounding area to come and have a look."

The trust recently became the new custodians of the war memorial from Slack Lane Baptist Chapel, following the building’s closure.

It also received a donation of the original wall clock from the Mechanics Institute, which was knocked down and replaced by Holden Hall in 1974.

Mr Payne said: “It is intended that the clock will be back in Holden Hall for the heritage weekend.

“We will that have an area put aside so visitors can write down some of their memories. These will be preserved for future reference and display.”

The trust plans Halloween parties on October 27, for children from 1pm to 4pm, and for adults from 7.30pm.

A festive craft market is planned for November 3 from 12.30pm to 4pm.

The trust will provide a free festive Great Get Together meal for villagers who may not see many people over the festive period, and a children’s Christmas party on December 21 in return for a small charge.

There will also be a New Year’s Eve Party the families.

The trust runs a fundraising lottery, which has paid out £1,000 to subscribers in the past 12 months, and the same amount to help maintain the village hall.

Visit oakworthcommunitytrust.org.uk/product/lottery to sign up for the lottery. The cost of an annual subscription is £12.

The hall and upstairs rooms are available for rent together or separately, for events such as private functions, social events and meetings.
