A 12-YEAR-OLD girl from Oxenhope has put her hand craft skills to valuable use by making her own poppies to sell for two good causes.
More than 100 of the attractive woollen poppies have been created by Lily Ellis.
Her mum, Jackie Ellis, explained: "Lily is making woollen poppies and all profits are being split, with two thirds going to the Poppy Appeal and a third to Manorlands Hospice.
"She has been selling poppies in various places including at Oxenhope Primary School, Oxenhope St Mary's Church, on social media, in the local hairdressers and through my and my husband's workplaces.
"Lily would like to say a big 'thank you' to everyone who has bought them so far and helped raise over £170."
Mrs Ellis said Lily, who now attends North Halifax Grammar School, made a large number of similar poppies in 2016. On that occasion her patient efforts raised £160 for both the Poppy Appeal and to help fund the cost of a new bike shed at Oxenhope Primary.
Mrs Ellis added: "She loves making them – she could almost do it with her eyes closed now – and she also likes getting out and talking to people when she sells them for the charities."
