A KEIGHLEY-based charity which helps people with cancer has received a £1,000 funding boost thanks to people taking part in a pair of sponsored walks outside Haworth.

Dozens of people took part in the second Withens Welly Walk for Keighley & Airedale Cancer Support earlier this month. (Nov)

Starting and finishing at the Old Sun Hotel, in Haworth's West Lane, they could enjoy a seven and a half mile trek all the way to Top Withens and back, or a shorter, five-mile route to and back from the Bronte Waterfalls.

Participants were asked for entry donations of £10 per adult and £5 per child, with an option for each walker to raise further sums through sponsorship.

Charity founder Rachael Moorhouse said a group of about 45 walkers, ranging in age from two to 85, benefited from good weather when they carried out the challenge.

"It was a beautiful day," she added. "It was great to have such a fun day out while also raising about £1,000. This will go towards funding therapies for people living with cancer in our local area.

"The Old Sun Hotel was brilliant. They put on food for us at the end of the walk and we had a raffle.

"We hope to possibly stage a longer walk next year."
