HOMELESS people facing Christmas on the streets of Bradford and Leeds received some festive cheer thanks to the efforts of a Keighley family.

Sajjad Sadiq, of Knowle Park, together with his 14-year-old son Mohsin, nine-year-old son Sohail and 15-year-old family friend Aamir Mahmood delivered shopping trolley loads of food and clothing to people sleeping rough on Christmas Eve.

Mr Sadiq, who works as a lorry driver, explained: "We were out and about in central Leeds on a crazy trolley dash, distributing food and clothing to the homeless. We came across about a dozen homeless people in the centre of Leeds. What was heartwarming to see was other groups and members of the public also offering gifts.

"Our return journey back was via Bradford, where we helped a couple who were struggling to stay warm and safe outside Forster Square Railway Station."

He said his brother-in-law Shahid Zaman, who is from Accrington, was able to supply thermal gloves, socks and hats, which were handed out to the homeless.

Mr Sadiq added: "We'd like to convey our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Trevor from Keighley's Broomhill Co-op store for the wonderful food hamper and the trolleys.

"Also a massive 'thank you' to Daniel from Riddlesden Co-op for their amazing donated food hamper, Patrick Atkinson and his family for giving tinned food items, Hash from B&M Keighley for the store's donated shoes and clothing and to everyone else who contributed their love and support."
