YEAR 10 school pupils from Keighley attended an event in Bradford designed to encourage them to continue studying maths beyond their GCSEs.
The students from University Academy Keighley (UAK) were given the opportunity to broaden their understanding of maths while attending a specialist Mathematics Enrichment Day.
A spokesman for UAK explained: "The ‘Taking Maths Further’ sessions, which took place at the University of Bradford, gave our students the option to choose from a mixture of topics such as the maths of a Rubik’s Cube, the Mobius Strip one-sided surface or exploring alternative geometries.
"There was also a finale called ‘Juggling Patterns’, which was presented by guest speaker Dr Colin Wright. During the session Dr Wright demonstrated a selection of juggling skills as a means to help our pupils understand complex mathematical patterns."
UAK maths teacher Adeel Hussain said the event had been extremely worthwhile.
He added: “The most memorable part of the day was the Juggling Patterns session with Dr Wright. The whole day was very informative and it was really inspiring for students to see mathematics beyond what is usually covered in the school curriculum.”
