A CULLINGWORTH couple are celebrating nearly two decades at the helm of an award-winning bike shop.

Paul and Sandra Corcoran took over ownership of Pennine Cycles in 2000.

Since then, the business – originally founded in 1946 as Whitaker & Mapplebeck (Cycles) Ltd – has won a clutch of awards.

And last year it was named among the nation's top 20 independent bike shops by Bike Biz magazine.

Managing director Paul, who began working at the Bradford shop in 1991 ahead of taking over the reins, said: "I’m very proud to have continued the heritage started 72 years ago.

"We are passionate about cycling and I am looking forward to seeing what opportunities 2019 brings us."

Sandra, a director, said a lot of customers who recalled visiting the shop as a youngster with their parents to buy their first bike were now returning to acquire cycles for their own children or grandchildren.

"It's wonderful that we can be part of those treasured family memories," she added.

Accolades picked-up by Pennine Cycles include business awards for outstanding customer service, and Sandra won a North of England Women’s Award for independent retailers.

Also, the firm was invited by the Department of International Trade to feature in a digital marketing campaign at Leeds Bradford Airport.
