BRITISH heavyweight boxing legend Frank Bruno will ‘meet and greet’ fans at a special dinner - and encourage people to ‘speak up’ on mental health issues.
The former WBC heavyweight world champion will be at Skipton’s Rendezvous Hotel on May 24 following an invitation from ‘Samuel’s Rainbow’ - the campaign in memory of Skipton 20-year-old Samuel Carroll, who took his own life in May 2016 after suffering from depression.
The event has been organised by Samuel’s sister Hayley Carroll and other family members.
The family started Samuel’s Rainbow shortly after his death to raise awareness of mental health issues and encourage people - especially males - to speak out and get help for depression.
Hayley said: “Frank Bruno has been behind Samuel’s Rainbow right from the start - he has always shared our social media posts and sent us a signed boxing glove to be auctioned.
“He’s such a lovely man, is so inspiring, and is always willing to help the campaign in any way he can.
“All proceeds will go to the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue, who were so kind and compassionate with our family when Samuel died.”
Tickets for the dinner, which is sponsored by Skipton’s The Mortgage Home Ltd, are £40 each and are available by phoning Hayley on 07402 263833.
