FLOWERS from the funeral of lifelong Keighley Cougars fan Desmond Jackson have honoured fallen player Danny Jones.

Desmond, of Long Lee, recently died aged 92 after decades spent contributing to community life in Keighley.

He had been a member of Keighley Rugby League Football Club’s Supporter’s Association as well as a leading member of Keighley Gala Committee and Keighley Lions Club.

Following Desmond’s funeral, his son Howard donated the flowers to the Danny Jones Memorial at Cougar Park.

The Keighley Cougars Supporters Club subsequently issued a massive thank you to Howard on their Facebook page.

Cougars stand-off Danny Jones, a Welsh international rugby league player, died at the age of 29 from an undiagnosed heart condition during a League One game at London Scholars in 2015.

Desmond was born in Knowle Park and educated at Keighley Technical School, completing an engineering apprenticeship before working as a newsagent and, for 25 years until his retirement, as exhibition manager for Magnet Joinery.

In the 1950s he was president of Keighley Rugby League Supporters Association, as well as chairman of the Yorkshire group of supporters associations.

Desmond was also the Keighley News neighbourhood correspondent for Thwaites Brow and Long Lee for about 20 years, and lived in the Long Lee area for 52 years.
