KEIGHLEY restaurant Shimla Spice has been shortlisted in five categories of the Bradford Curry Awards.

The curry house on Damside was chosen after competition organisers received 30,000 nominations for restaurants across the district.

Shimla Spice manager Faisal Hussain said it was a great honour for him and his team to be shortlisted in the contest.

He said: “This is a brilliant achievement for us to make it to the finals of this award as Bradford is the best city to eat in UK.

“Out of the hundreds of restaurants we made it to the finals, the only restaurant in Keighley to be shortlisted.”

Shimla has been shortlisted for best restaurant, chef, dish, manager and customer service.

The Bradford Curry Awards seek to find the best of the best while encouraging newcomers to the industry, which employs over 30,000 people district-wide.

Organiser and event director Fatima Patel said Bradford had won the national title of Curry Capital of Britain for six consecutive years and posted more than 200 curry establishments. She said the awards offered a chance for the city’s establishments to shine.

The judges will now visit the shortlisted establishments to choose final winners.

The winners will be announced during the final at the Cedar Court Hotel, on Tuesday, April 9.
