BELLY dancers, Tai Chi and Dad’s Army were among the attractions at Bracken Bank’s annual spring family event.

The Sue Belcher Community Centre hosted the Spring Festival organised by the Bracken Bank and District Community Association.

The event at the building on Bracken Bank Avenue was opened by Ed Anderson, the Lord-Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, and the local Home Guard re-enactment group turned out in force.

Association treasurer Nadine Peck said: “The sun shone, and large numbers came to enjoy the interesting mix of stalls and displays.

“The belly dancers had large numbers of the public joining in and learning how it’s done. Profits will go into a fund to put a much-needed new roof on the centre.

“The committee and volunteers would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the festival such a wonderful success.”

Prizes for the raffle and tombola were donated by Morrisons and Asda.

The Sue Belcher Centre, which will is run by the community association, has held Swing Into Spring family fun days over couple of years.

In previous years activities are included a barbecue, ducklings, lambs, ferret racing, storytime, face painting, gardening tuition, a bouncy castle and a fire pit.

The association formed a new committee last year in a bid to secure the long-term financial future of the centre.

Members hoped to build on the facility’s existing success in providing regular activities and special events for all ages of people on the Bracken Bank estate.

These include weekly youth sessions, an exercise class, a job club, dog health sessions, regular parties, and councillors’ surgeries.

The Sue Belcher Centre is owned by Bradford Council but has been run for many years by Bracken Bank and District Community Association, who pay a peppercorn rent.

The council pays an annual sum towards the core running costs of the centre.
