ALDI’S Keighley and Silsden stores are donating surplus food to good causes.
Perishable items such as fresh fruit and veg, as well as baked and long-life goods, are being given away.
Children’s charity The Principle Trust is among the beneficiaries.
But the supermarket company would like to hear from other charitable organisations in the area interested in linking-up.
The initiative, staged in partnership with community engagement platform Neighbourly, has been rolled-out to more than 30 stores in West Yorkshire following a successful trial. Good causes collect the food up to five days a week.
Fritz Walleczek, managing director of corporate responsibility at Aldi, said: “We’re always looking for new and creative ways to increase the amount of food we are able to donate. This partnership is enabling us to distribute even more surplus stock, while supporting a vast range of good causes.
“Our aim is for fresh, healthy food to be accessible to everyone, and Neighbourly is helping us to extend this commitment beyond our affordable range of fresh products.”
Any charity in Keighley or Silsden interested in signing-up to the scheme should e-mail aldi@neighbourly.com.
Aldi last year donated two million meals to charity and has pledged to reduce its operational food waste by half by 2030.
