FAMILIES headed for fun at Cullingworth Gala and a Great Get Together in Keighley at the weekend.

Cullingworth Gala was a great success on Sunday despite what organisers called “a few problems” before the procession.

Leonie Padgett, one of the organisers, said that due to a clerical error the time of recession are to be changed at the last minute.

She said: “Everyone in the village rallied round and communicated the changes. The weather held out and the gala committee worked together to get everything set up earlier than normal.

“The samba band got held up in Keighley so didn’t make it apart from the of their drummers who headed up the procession up along with the ‘elephant’!

“The brownies and scouts followed, marching and chanting, and there was a brilliant attendance with more floats than we’ve ever had.

“Cullingworth Primary School, the Luna and Diamond dance schools, and the Scarecrow Festival were just some a few of them, scarecrow festival to name a few.”

Cullingworth gala queen Molly Azemar Battle was in attendance, accompanied by her attendants Lexi Whiteley Guest and Junior Ouassine.

On the gala field there was a selection of stalls, games and tombolas, and performances by tombolas. Cullingworth Primary School, community choirs, Parkside School, and singer Ben Jordan.

Leonie added: “There was a brilliant atmosphere. The whole day was a great success.”

The latest Great Get Together of the summer was held for four hours at Lund Park in Keighley.

The Great Get Together is a national initiative honouring the memory of murdered MP Jo Cox.

Behind the event last Saturday were Bangladeshi Community Association, Lund Park Community Action Group and Holycroft Primary School, with backing from Bradford Council and Cliffe Castle.

Organisers proclaimed attractions including Punjabi Roots Academy, a Manorlands mini Paintrush, a tug-of-war, and professional Beeni arm wrestlers.

Also laid-on were stalls selling everything from food and sweets to clothes, henna, face painting and inflatables.
