PARKSIDE students are good sports following two of their annual events.

The Cullingworth school held its Sports Presentation Night at Keighley Rugby Club in front of a sold-out crowd of 180 people. Then towards the end of term the sports day was held at the Cullingworth campus.

Guest speaker at the presentation night was former student Jess Mayho who now represents Great Britain for the Hammer Throw.

Students across the year groups received accolades for effort and achievement throughout the previous year.

Ben Miller, the deputy head of PE, said: “As always, it was a fantastic evening and we would like to thank all the staff, parents, carers and students who attended.

“A big thank you must also go to all those who helped with the preparation for the evening, from the collecting of money, to the making of certificates.

“A special mention must go to the winner of the ‘Outstanding Achievement’ award, Kyle Welsh, who was a well-deserved winner of this prestigious award.”

Mr Miller said Parkside’s sports day was again a huge success, with everyone getting involved and a “real feelgood factor” around the event.

He added: “The sun eventually decided to come out after an initial windy and cold start. There was a sense of excitement in the air as the students, were representing their house (Bronte, Salt or Hockney) and wanted to get as many points as possible.

“There were some excellent performances and the PE department would like to thank all the staff for their help in organising such a fantastic event, but more importantly, the students who were a credit to the school and themselves.”

The Salt house won the years seven, eight and 10 sections, as well as the overall competition, while year nine was won by Hockney house.
