KEIGHLEY Technical College was built on the site of the old Mechanics Institute, at the junction of North Street and Cavendish Street.
The Mechanics was badly damaged by fire in March, 1962, with the ruins finally being demolished in 1967.
In its place was built the main Technical College premises, followed by a second building on the opposite side of Lord Street, joined by a corridor footbridge. The building later became known simply as Keighley College.
In 2007 it merged with Park Lane College Leeds then later became part of Leeds City College.
A new £35 million purpose-built campus opened next to the railway station in September, 2010.
The North Street building was put up for sale in 2012, but when no buyer was found it and the remains of Keighley Boys’ Grammar School were demolished, leaving a grassed area.
