THE KING And I will bring glamour to Leeds Grand this autumn as the sumptuous musical tours for the first time in several years.

Leeds will see the critically-acclaimed production that was a hit on Broadway, won several Tony awards and had a record-breaking season at the London Palladium.

The show tells the story of an unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.

Performing as Anna, fresh from her West End success, will be Annalene Beechey, and reprising his acclaimed Broadway performance as The King will be Jose Llana.

The two stars have been wowing audiences since the musical embarked on its international tour earlier this year.

Annalene said: ā€œI absolutely love playing Anna, she is a dream role for any actress. Iā€™m delighted to bring this wonderful production and our glorious King to Yorkshire!ā€

Set in 1860s Bangkok, the musical boasts one of the finest scores ever written, including Whistle a Happy Tune, Getting to Know You and Shall We Dance, and features 50 performers with a full orchestra.

The King and I will be in Leeds on from October 29 to November 9.
