GIN and tonics produced by a Haworth firm have gone down a treat in a coveted awards scheme.

Tipples from Haworth Steam Brewing Company were among the winners in the Great Taste accolades.

Both Haworth Gins and the Gascoigne’s Tonics and Mixers products were awarded four 1-star Great Taste awards – adjudging that the drinks deliver “fantastic flavour” – and two 2-star plaudits, with judges hailing them as “above and beyond delicious”.

Brewery owner, Andy Gascoigne, said he was “absolutely delighted” with the awards.

“This was the first time we had entered and we came home with stars for every single drink we put forward,” he added.

“It’s brilliant – and a resounding endorsement of what we are trying to create.

“We believe our combination of gins, tonics and mixers is unbeatable. There are plenty of gin makers around but few, if any, are creating fabulous-tasting mixers to go with them.

“We’re also very proud of our Yorkshire heritage, using only natural ingredients. Producers of our own Yorkshire gin, based in Haworth, we are steeped in the tradition of the Brontes and the wild, windswept moors.

“I’m confident that our success in the Great Taste Awards will add value to our business in terms of credibility, opening doors to new retailers and ultimately increasing sales.

“We will be celebrating long and hard at our Brewhouse Bistro here in Haworth. We have built-up a loyal following locally and beyond and we will enjoy sharing our success with our friends and patrons.”

Great Taste is acknowledged as a premier food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers.

The coveted two stars were awarded to Gascoigne’s Red Gooseberry Tonic and Gascoigne’s Sour Bramley Apple Mixer, while the one stars were given to Gascoigne’s Blackcurrant and Liquorice Mixer, Gascoigne’s Orange and Grapefruit Tonic, Gascoigne’s Pomegranate Tonic and Miss Mollie’s Liquorice Blackjack Gin.

The awards are judged by food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs, buyers, retailers and producers, as well as a host of food writers and journalists.
