VELMA left Scooby-Doo at home for a day when she visited Specsavers in Keighley.

She was at the store – at Queensway, in the Airedale Shopping Centre – as part of an event focussing on the importance of eye health.

Youngsters had the chance to take part in some themed crafts with Velma, who’s famous for her distinctive specs.

Eye-healthy foods were on offer and information was provided about how to look after your sight.

Guide Dogs volunteers and their canine companions were also present, and more than £147 was raised for the charity.

Guests at the event included Keighley’s town mayor, Councillor Peter Corkindale.

A Specsavers spokesman said: “It was a brilliant day.

“Velma engaged with lots of children and adults alike, with top tips on keeping your eyes healthy.

“There were also simulation glasses for people to try on to show how our vision is affected by certain eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. Even the mayor tried them on to empathise with people with the conditions.”
