SKIPTON Golf club hosted the launch of the 10th Great Skipton Santa Fun Run organised by the Rotary club of Skipton Craven to an invited audience of previous participants and supporters, schools, charitable organisations, community support groups, event contributors and local Rotarians.

Rotarian Bob Marchant talked about the high-profile event which launched the Christmas season in Skipton in conjunction with Skipton town council and Skipton BID which to date has raised over £250,000 for good causes.

He outlined key points and potential benefits of participating in this year’s Run and announced event enhancements to improve event runner and observer safety, an additional 3km course to improve event access to those with disability and incentives to encourage larger group participation.

Rotarian Colin Hargreaves explained the rationale for and details of this year’s event new routes.

Rotarian District Governor Manoj Joshi shared with the audience his take on what Rotary is about, its contributions to communities and world peace and its current focus.

He explained that Rotary is where neighbours, friends, and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders, and take action to create lasting change.

The Run takes place on November 26 at 11am when a host of Santas of many age groups will take to Skipton’s streets and walk or run the 5km or 3km course for their own enjoyment and/or to raise money for their chosen good causes cheered on by well-wishers.

Rotary is aiming for 2,000 runners this year and hoping to raise £40,000.
