SOUTH Craven residents are being invited to give their views on the county council’s strategy for supporting people with autism and their families.

North Yorkshire County Council has launched Autism Matters, a series of public events to offer people the chance to provide feedback on the present five-year plan and suggest improvements.

Several forums are planned, which will include short presentations and group discussions.

Anyone preferring a quieter or more informal chat can call in before or after the group sessions.

For more details and to register to attend a forum, visit northyorks.gov.uk/autismmattersregister.

A survey has also been created, for people with autism, their friends and family, and professionals to submit their views. It can be accessed at northyorks.gov.uk/autismmatterssurvey.

County Councillor Michael Harrison, executive member for adult services and health integration, said: “Communication and consultation in developing our future plans and priorities will contribute to a dynamic and meaningful strategy. There are an estimated 7,000 people with autism in North Yorkshire, so it’s important we get this right.”
