UNIVERSITY Academy Keighley hopes to follow in the footsteps of its Bradford partner which has been named Secondary School of the Year.

Carlton Bolling Academy was awarded the title at the Pearson Teaching Awards, known as the Education Oscars, in London this month.

The award recognises the Academy’s rise over the past five years since going into special measures and being described as “the most broken school in the country”.

Subsequent improvement led to it gaining an “Outstanding” rating from Ofsted in 2017, gaining World Class School status 2018, and forming the Carlton Academy Trust this year.

Carlton Bolling Academy too UAK under its wing in September last year through a ‘school improvement partnership’, introducing Carlton Bolling’s systems, with a particular focus on excellence in teaching and learning.

UAK’s Head of School, Jon Skurr, this week said the Secondary School of the Year award was an amazing achievement for Carlton Academy.

He said: “We are extremely pleased to have them as our partner school and are particularly looking forward to UAK joining the Carlton Academy Trust in the near future.”

“UAK has achieved the best results in Keighley for 2018-19 and, with the implementation of Carlton’s systems, an innovative and energetic staff and the very best students, UAK is set to achieve amazing things in the future too!”

Adrian Kneeshaw, Chief Executive Officer of the Carlton Academy Trust, said the school invested in the very best specialised teachers and associate staff (16 for core subjects), dispensed with unnecessary meetings and bureaucracy, and ensured staff had a great work-life balance.
