HOUSE prices dropped more than average for Yorkshire and The Humber in Bradford in November, new figures show.

But the drop does not reverse the longer-term trend, which has seen property prices in the area achieve 0.1% annual growth .

The average Bradford house price in November was £138,017, Land Registry figures show – a 1.0% decrease on October.

Over the month, the picture was similar to that across Yorkshire and The Humber, where prices decreased 1.0% , and Bradford underperformed compared to the 0.4% rise for the UK as a whole.

Over the last year, the average sale price of property in Bradford rose by £100 – putting the area 17th among Yorkshire and The Humber’s 21 local authorities for annual growth.

The best annual growth in the region was in Barnsley, where properties increased on average by 7.9%, to £132,000. At the other end of the scale, properties in Ryedale dropped 3.3% in value, giving an average price of £228,000.

Owners of terraced houses fared worst in Bradford in November – they dropped 1.3% in price, to £112,707 on average . Over the last year, prices dropped by 0.3%.

Detached housed were down 0.8% monthly; up 0.3% annually; £246,375 average

Semi-detached: down 0.8% monthly; up 0.6% annually; £145,775 average

Flats: down 0.7% monthly; down 0.8% annually; £99,139 average

First steps on the property ladder

First-time buyers in Bradford spent an average of £ 123,178 on their property – £83 less than a year ago, and £17,846 more than in November 2014.

By comparison, former owner-occupiers paid £ 148,370 on average in November – 20.5% more than first-time buyers.

How do property prices in Bradford compare?

Buyers paid 16.7% less than the average price in Yorkshire and The Humber (£166,000) in November for a property in Bradford. Across Yorkshire and The Humber, property prices are low compared to those across the UK, where the average cost £235,000.

The most expensive properties in Yorkshire and The Humber were in Harrogate – £287,000 on average, and 2.1 times as much as in Bradford. Harrogate properties cost 2.5 times as much as homes in Hull (£116,000 average), at the other end of the scale.

The highest property prices across the UK were in Kensington and Chelsea, where the average November sale price of £1.2 million could buy 14 properties in Burnley (average £84,000).
