A WILSDEN road will be shut this summer as part of work to upgrade the electricity network.

Lane Side will close during the school summer holidays, from late July.

The scheme forms part of a £30 million district-wide improvement project by Northern Powergrid.

It has been described as the biggest upgrade ever undertaken by the company.

Project manager, Sharon Incerti, said: “Lane Side has to be closed unfortunately, and the summer holidays is the only time we can do this.

“Nine busses use that road, eight of which are school busses. The only space we can do this work on Lane Side is the middle of the road, so we’ll have to close it.

“It won’t be easy for residents and businesses on the route, but we’re trying to do all this with as little disruption as we can.”

An update on the scheme was given at a meeting of Bradford West Area Committee.

Members were told that although Lane Side would close, most other routes where work is taking place will remain open with temporary traffic lights operating.
