KEIGHLEY people with multiple sclerosis are being asked to take part in a survey related to coronavirus.

The research is being carried out by the MS Society, which says that whilst having multiple sclerosis alone doesn’t increase a person’s risk of contracting Covid-19, many with the condition are more susceptible to infection.

Thousands of people with MS are deemed to be extremely vulnerable and have been asked by the Government to self-isolate for 12 weeks.

Dr Susan Kohlhaas, for the MS Society, said: “More than 130,000 people live with MS in the UK and we are asking every one of them to join this study to help us understand more about Covid-19. There’s so much we don’t know about this virus and only real-world data will help us change that.

“This is a worrying and uncertain time for all of us, but many people living with MS are especially vulnerable, and this study will allow us to support them as best we can.”

She added that within the first 24 hours alone, over 1,170 people with MS had completed the online questionnaire – but that more respondents were needed so researchers could get a better understanding of the virus and its impact.
