‘WELCOME Walks’ are returning to Keighley for a second year but this time places are limited.
The guided walks around the Aire and Worth valleys are being held on Wednesdays throughout August.
Numbers are limited each time in line with government advice on activity during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Keighley community worker Muppet is the leader for three of the walks, with Nick Milsom from the Aire Rivers Trust leading the walk on August 12.
The walks are being supported by Keighley Big Local, the regeneration programme for neighbourhoods around the lower Worth Valley.
Big Local coordinator Shaun O’Hare said: “The Welcome Walks were very popular last year, with 15 in all. The original idea was to welcome residents new to Keighley.
“The walks have a water theme, complementing and showcasing the fantastic achievements of the River Worth Friends in clearing fly-tipping on the River Work and the North Beck.
“The welcome walks are great social events. Both Muppett and Nick are very knowledgeable about the area, ensuring a good experience. “As Big Local activity increases the walks provide us with an opportunity to show off the achievements of Big Local residents; from play area and building improvements to tree planting and clearance of fly tipping grot spots.”
August 12 will be a ‘DNAire’ walk to explore where the River Aire and River Worth meet. Visit dnaire.org.uk.
A 5.5-mile Riddlesden circular on August 19 will set off from the Stockbridge Arms on Bradford Road at 6pm and journey via Keighley golf course, returning along the canal towpath.
A four-mile Riddlesden Circular on August 26 will go via West Morton, meeting at the Bar Lane canal swing bridge at 6pm.
Shaun said: “We start by walking along the towpath, then up to the grounds of the former Riddlesden Fever Hospital, from there we then follow a path alongside How Beck as it climbs up the valley side to West Morton.
“We follow a series of minor roads, lanes and paths, giving panoramic views of the Aire valley, before dropping down into Riddlesden.”
Search Eventbrite Keighley Big Local on Google to book places on each walk.
