A PROUD grandson is trying to discover more about a Keighley medal won by his grandfather more than a century ago.
The watch-chain medal, inscribed on the rear Waltzing Championship of Keighley, was awarded to Ernest Flynn.
It is believed the medal dates from around 1911, when Ernest would have been 21.
“It was handed down to me and I have worn it with pride on my pocket watch and chain for many years,” says grandson John, 71, who lives in County Durham.
“I have become intrigued by the history of the medal. I was unable to learn more from my grandfather or father as they were both deceased by the time I was just four.”
Ernest was part of the Flynn family which lived in Edensor Road, Keighley. He moved away after his marriage at St Anne’s Church in 1920.
John can be contacted on ja.flynn@btinternet.com or 07801 231842.
