SUE Ryder is opening a new charity shop in Keighley – its third in the town.

The latest outlet is at Alston Retail Park, near B&Q.

An official opening ceremony will take place on Friday, September 4, at 10am. Keighley MP Robbie Moore will perform the honours.

Shop manager, Lianne Smith, said: “Opening a new store in Keighley – ‘home’ to Sue Ryder Manorlands hospice – is a really exciting retail development for us.

“There is something for everyone in the new premises and I am sure shoppers will be delighted by the exceptional quality and value and the wide range of goods we will be selling.

“The funds raised from the shop will help ensure Sue Ryder can be there when it matters for those in need of palliative, neurological or bereavement support.”

Items on offer will include second-hand clothes, accessories, homeware, electricals, music and books.

Sue Ryder is also appealing for volunteers to help in the shop.

There is a wide range of roles available, from sorting and preparing stock to assisting with sales.

The store will feature a number of measures to help prevent the spread of coronavirus and keep staff and customers safe.

There will be floor markings to support social distancing, acrylic screens at the tills and hand gel stations at the entrance, enhanced cleaning of the premises and strict procedures relating to the sorting and selling of donated stock.

The number of customers allowed in the shop will be restricted and the changing rooms will be closed.

Mr Moore pays tribute to the charity.

“Sue Ryder does vital work to support people in need at the most challenging time of their lives,” he said.

“It helps people all over the UK, but also here in our area with its excellent Manorlands facility at Oxenhope – which I had the pleasure of visiting as one of my first official engagements when I became the Member of Parliament.

“The charity wouldn’t be able to function without the support of volunteers and donors – and of course people shopping in their stores. I’m delighted they’ve added a new store to the area.”

Sue Ryder already has shops in Keighley’s Airedale Shopping Centre and Cavendish Street. For more details, visit sueryder.org/support-us/shop-with-us.
