A CAMPAIGN warning the region’s farm workers of the dangers posed by overhead power lines has proved a hit – several million times!

Northern Powergrid posted information and advice on its website as part of the Look Up It’s Live initiative.

And the materials have attracted over four million views.

“Every year in the UK we see drivers of agricultural equipment killed or seriously injured when their vehicles come into contact with – or get too close to – overhead power lines,” says Geoff Earl, Northern Powergrid’s director of health, safety and environment.

“Our campaign reminds farmers and farm workers to ensure they stay clear of power lines and offers potentially life-saving advice should their vehicle come too close to or make contact with the lines.

“It’s fantastic that our targeted safety message has been seen more than four million times.

“We have thousands of miles of overhead power lines on wooden poles which can carry up to 132,000 volts – anyone driving agricultural vehicles should be extra vigilant of these lines, especially at dusk or dawn when visibility is poorer. We also recommend carrying a mobile phone at all times and store 105, the number to call in an emergency.”
