THE process to remove travellers who have set up camp at Apperley Bridge railway station for the past three weeks is "continuing", its owners have said.

Members of the travelling community set up camp in the station's car park at the start of this month.

A court hearing took place last week as part of the eviction process, and caravans have disappeared in dribs and drabs from the car park this week.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which operates the station car park, said this week: “The Court Hearing took place last Thursday and the legal process to remove the caravans occupying the site is continuing.”

The travellers could still be seen set up in the car park this week, as could a large amount of litter strewn across the car park.

More than 20 caravans filled the car park when the community arrived, with some bringing commercial vans and excavation equipment in tow.

Many people who used the train station as part of their daily commute have said they didn't feel comfortable leaving their cars in the car park since the travellers arrived on Friday, October 2.
