A ‘SPECIAL moment in our history’ has been captured at Bramhope.

Miller Homes had invited residents to donate all kinds of items including photographs, artwork, memorabilia and letters to include in a time capsule.

The community responded enthusiastically with everyone from the local churches to Bramhope Primary School sending in contributions.

Now the capsule has been buried in a public open space at the entrance to Miller Homes’ 321-property Spring Wood Park development.

Regional Sales Manager for Miller Homes Yorkshire, Sarah Whinfrey, said: “2020 will be a year that goes down in history and we felt that it would be important to mark the positives that have emerged such as community spirit, resilience and family memories.

“We were truly humbled with the content that people have produced and many of the works created by the children at Bramhope Primary School was inspired, really capturing the emotion of the last nine months.”

Marked by a plaque, the capsule was placed in the ground by Sarah, Marketing Manager Chris Carlin and Spring Wood Park Site Manager Grant Gibson.

She added: “It was nice to be able to mark the occasion and create a special moment in our history, whilst ensuring we remained Covid Secure. In fifty years’ time, when we ask that the capsule is removed from the ground, we hope that the residents of Spring Wood Park and Bramhope enjoy looking at this unique moment in history.”

Local councillors have been very supportive of the project. Councillor Barry Anderson (Con, Adel and Wharfedale) which encompasses Bramhope commented: “This has been a brilliant initiative, has given the community a focus and marks a viewpoint in the history of Bramhope. It has been a way of bringing everyone together and I’m sure will provide a point in history for researchers in the future.

“Miller Homes are trying to put something back into our village and it’s important that developers become part of the community – this will leave a great legacy for future generations.”
