SOME leaseholders across Keighley could save thousands of pounds through new measures just announced, it is claimed.
Under the change, those who choose to extend the lease on their home will no longer have to pay any ground rent to the freeholder.
The Government says the move will make home ownership “fairer and more secure”.
Keighley MP, Robbie Moore, is supportive of the change.
He said: “Everybody should have the opportunity to own their own home without having to pay excessive fees to freeholders. These reforms are a step in the right direction for giving homeowners long-term security and peace of mind.
“The changes will end the bureaucracy and unnecessary and unfair expenses that many Keighley residents currently face, saving them hundreds or even thousands of pounds. At present many leaseholders are facing high ground rents which, combined with a mortgage, can make it feel like they are paying rent on a property they own.”
