COVID-19 vaccinations are continuing to be rolled-out across the district.

Among the centres is one at Long Lee, operated by Modality Partnership.

In a single week, the centre administered 2,850 vaccines – a mixture of Pfizer and Oxford Astra Zeneca – to patients from across Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven.

By the end of this week, almost all over-80s will have been given vaccination appointments and invitations will be sent to over-75s/70s and clinically-vulnerable patients.

Partnership bosses stress that patients will be contacted, via text or phone, to arrange an appointment – they shouldn’t phone their surgery.

Modality is opening a second vaccination centre, at its Silsden surgery, this Saturday.

That will enable the partnership to double its vaccination capacity locally, with the potential to deliver more than 6,000 vaccinations a week.

“We have recruited almost 100 vaccination volunteers – who are a mixture of retired health professionals and willing individuals,” said a spokesman.

“Among the recruits were a dentist, a vet and a social media manager!”

Modality’s volunteer vaccinators include retired GP, Dr Tom White.

He said: “I’m so pleased to be able to come back to help my former colleagues and the wider community at this time.

“I’m amazed at the incredible organisation that has gone into delivering this vaccination programme locally – and the way that so many different medical professionals are working co-operatively in such a worthwhile effort.

“I feel proud to be involved and proud of the Modality team.”

Another volunteer is mum-of-three Emma Home. “It’s rewarding and a real privilege to be involved,” she said.

Also, the partnership’s GP and nursing teams have visited all the care homes the organisation works with in the area to vaccinate residents and staff.
