WELL-known Oakworth sheepdog trials champ Carol Mellin was among those doing business at a hugely-successful virtual sale.

She featured with the bidders and vendors at Skipton Auction Mart’s first online working sheepdog sale of the year.

Carol, who has bred and trialled working dogs under the Moor Lodge prefix for years, bought the first dog to be offered for sale – Lyn, an 11-month-old part-trained black and white bitch – for £4,100. The seller was Neil Hirrell, of County Donegal.

She then sold Moor Lodge Maisie, a two-year-old home-bred bitch, for £5,000 to the Dunstall Estate near Burton-on-Trent.

Carol used to run annual, New Year’s Day sheepdog trials – with her son Philip – at Moor Lodge Farm in Oakworth to raise funds for charity.

The event began in 1991 and over the years coined-in thousands of pounds for Airedale Hospital’s child development centre and then the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The trials, which attracted competitors from across the north, ended in 2015.
